About

Palmer ACES was founded by Dr. Debra Palmer, an experienced Nurse Practitioner and nurse educator following the Covid 19 pandemic with the goal of increasing individual and collective well-being.

About The Founder

Dr. Palmer resides in Northern California near her three adult children and grandchildren.  He career originated in the upper midwest near the shores of Lake Superior as a Licensed Practical nurse working as a hospital float nurse while completing her Registered Nurse Education at the College of St Scholastica. Upon graduation she moved to the state of Washington working in intensive care units at the onset of the HIV epidemic and later in California  where her husband was stationed in the U S Navy. Eager to change her focus from acute care and the treatment of health complications to prevention and wellness she pursued a Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of San Diego where she completed education as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Her clinical practice has spanned over 25 years, primarily in the specialty practice of orthopedics. She has served as a nurse advocate and leader through state and local professional nursing organizations and collaborated with her peers in developing the first national certification for Orthopedic Nurse Practitioners. In 2010 she completed a Doctorate in Nursing practice degree followed by a nurse practitioner faculty position.

Kaiser Permanente Recognized her as an Every Day Hero for leading primary care  mission teams  in Guatemala and as a recipient of the David Lawrence Community Service Award for her work with the Raymond Kay Community Clinic Fellowship team. In 2013 her peers awarded her the California Nurse Practitioner Association Bridging Healthcare Needs Award.

Her latest contribution to Nursing has been the completion of a PhD and research  on sub-specialty nurse practitioner practice in her dissertation entitled  Orthopedic Nurse Practitioners as a Sub-specialty: A Case Study.

Dr. Palmer’s research findings suggest the future of subspecialty nurse practitioners is dependent upon retaining the heart of nursing, the fundamental core of the Nurse Practitioner role. It is Dr. Palmer’s belief, that the pursuit of wellness is dependent upon retaining ones fundamental core as well. Addressing ones sense of purpose in the grander scheme of life, the fundamental core of our well-being , has always been an essential element of the sacred art of Nursing and the promotion of well-being. It is this core that is often missing in the pursuit of well-being and a thriving future. The goal of Palmer Aces is to enhance holistic well-being of the body, mind and spirit by remaining true to ones fundamental purpose.
